Kernel Oops on locking sockets via fcntl()
Once the locking succeeds the child sleeps and the parent tries to write to the file without obtaining the lock. I would imagine that the write() should return an error when the file is opened in non-blocking mode or block till it is unlocked. But that doesn't happen on linux. However the file doesn't get written by

However, like _all_ file lock methods, there is an inherent race condition; a process which grabs a lock first, wins this race. Hi,
When rebuilding on windows 2000 I have a customer that occassionally gets an access denied error on the datafiles. Also sometimes the system cannot lock the file after 100 tries and complains with a lock error. This routine has been working for some 10 years now on all previous OS's including Novell and NT4.
